I tend, surprisingly, to not be an accumulator, but if I were, basalt would be high on my list.

My clampdown came two and a half years ago, at the beginning of the meltdown. I am not madly in favour of the cluttered look, and in these smaller premises than those we had previously, I keep much "stuff" in cupboards and drawers. I decided in our last residence that as I didn't have a lady who "does", I wasn't going to spend my life dusting and polishing, so I would be selective about what was on display. I've rather kept to that formula, even though I am very lucky to have a delightful and efficient maid in my life now, who makes everything sparkle. The good thing is that if you have bought wisely you may be able to offload it one day in the future, when taking care of it becomes much more troublesome. Whilst I share your worries about the economic outlook, I am myself this year beginning to think that things are looking a little more positive, (in Asia certainly), and as this world-wide downturn started in 2008, it's about time!

I do like your basalt urns, (and to me they appear perfectly formed without their lids). I really like the Washington picture, and also the frame, with its unpretentious stenciled egg-and-dart design.

I confess I have evolved a similar collecting strategy: a virtual moratorium on new purchases, unless they add to or document a collection, and are attractively priced. Of course, there is always room for exceptions, not to mention rationalizations, so the situation is not really that dire.
--Road to ParnassusParnassushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08958901307538141468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8044541580633294348.post-7073598504356745342012-01-22T20:27:49.114-05:002012-01-22T20:27:49.114-05:00I love the basalt urns especially!I love the basalt urns especially! The Devoted Classicisthttp://tdclassicist.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
