What a Week!

Please forgive Reggie for dancing on air.  He's had the most lovely of weeks . . .

It started last Saturday with a house party at Darlington House, where we threw a knock-their-socks-off cocktail party that somehow, and much to my delight, turned into an impromptu, fun-beyond-belief dance party that went on until nearly four in the morning.  On Tuesday Reggie was thrilled to find himself honored to be a guest contributor on New York Social Diary, one of his absolutely most favorite, must-read blogs.  On Thursday he was beside himself with pleasure to be quoted in a story in The New York Times by Christopher Petkanas on Emily Thompson, NewYork's newest florist with the mostest.

The flower arrangement that arrived yesterday

And that very same evening he was thrilled beyond belief to arrive home at his city apartment to find a gift waiting for him of a most gorgeous bouquet of the most fabulous flowers from the guests of honor at our cocktail party, a lovely married couple.  The wife is one of the most celebrated personages on the blogosphere, and Reggie is pleased as punch that both she and her husband have become dear friends.  And on top of that, the flowers were from the atelier of Emily Thompson, the very same florist who was the subject of Christopher Petkanas' story in The New York Times!

Reggie is convinced that it simply doesn't get any better than that.

In fact, he just might faint!

  7. The NYT profile on Emily Thompson is a great tribute to an exceptional talent. I am glad you had such a delightfully memorable week.

  8. From the NYSD to the New York Times all in one week, congratulations!
Now I think that now you need to throw another party, just to celebrate, with dancing till dawn!

  9. Dear Reggie, I think this would be a good week to buy a lottery ticket, and if you win, do remember who made the suggestion. Mark

  12. So glad you liked them, it was such a treat to make something for you! The foliage is called "red tip" or photinia.

  24. Reggie, darling- late to the dance, alas a wallflower-however where I to stand, could not wish for a better place than Darlington to languish. Now to get NYSD to photograph your next sock hop-would love to see the dancing that went on. I fear I have just 1 objection to your post- The celebrated personage on the blogosphere- I can not help but disapprove of anyone being referred to as someone's wife. I know such as I am- a terror at being UnRegiRuley. Yours-such a labor of love-all the rules I think it always helps to have a someone helping with ALLthose rules!

  25. Glad you had such a fun and happy week Reggie! The wheels on the bus were certainly going round and round for you...weren't they?!
I hope you video taped the dance party, and I hope you want to share said video with all of your dear and loyal blog friends (hint-hint), just saying! :)

  26. Thank you, everyone, for your kind and supportive comments. I am all astonishment that Lady Fortune was so kind to smile upon such an insignificant and conventional fellow as I this past week. And most grateful that she did, too.

Mark Ruffner: Now, that's an excellent idea!

janfaw: The dance party's playlist included club classics from Michael Jackson and George Michael, but what really rocked the house was an extended play version of "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang.

Emily: Thank you for making such a lovely arrangement, I am so pleased to have it.

Litt Augury: Thank you, m'dear. Do you really think so? I believe it is an honor to be referred to as a husband. Is it not so to for a wife, too?

  27. A loving eldest sister's first impulse was to defend Reggie from bookishnyc's snide comment. Then my better self prevailed and I realized that bookishnyc had no idea just how hard Reggie has worked for all he has and what he has achieved.

I am absolutely thrilled for my dear "baby" brother and so happy he is getting recognition for his creativity and humor.

PS. And for Boy, as well, who contributes so much.

  28. Reggie darling, Perhaps it is because I have never had the pleasure-I am all apologies to the marrieds. -a single woman, aka hard hearted hannah, aka little augury aka...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sister: You are too kind.

Little Augury: You may be many things to many people, but I can attest from having had the pleasure of meeting you that you are anything but hard-hearted.

  30. What drives me mad is the newly shifting accents, little irritating games the media, with all its influence, seems to enjoy playing these days. ON-going is all of a sudden on-GOING. AFF-luent is all of a sudden aff-LU-ent, drives me mad. Really, and let's be honest, it's illiteracy that's taking hold and reshaping the language, creating more and more solicisms every day. Oh well, Athens is ancient history!

  31. Dearest one,

This is the second time i send you a comment that doesn't appear. I know it's not you! Of course I would not let an occasion such as this go by without hearty congrats. You deserve it. Don't be too disappointed if this week isn't half as good as the last one. Life has a way of playing dirty tricks sometimes, so enjoy the ride!

Being a big sister myself to a remarkable younger brother, I treasure [and amplify] the remarks posted by your older sister. But, Reggie. Lady F wants you to repay her bounty by posting just one, just one teensy tiny leetle baby miniature modest photo of yourself and Boy. Just one.

  33. The nation's capital (the snow covered one) sends you a huge congratulations for your most remarkable week.
